Kris Allen fine seeing Adam Lambert in the spotlight
November 21st, 2009
"American Idol" champion Kris Allen has often lost the spotlight to runner-up Adam Lambert since winning the televised singing competition in May, but Allen says he is just fine with that.
Allen's self-titled album hit stores Tuesday, six days before Lambert's record release "For Your Entertainment," so it's a heady time for the two "Idol" finalists from the top-rated U.S. TV show where viewers choose the winner.
In the lead-up to those album releases, Lambert had his song "Time for Miracles" featured on the soundtrack for blockbuster Hollywood movie "2012."
This comes after Lambert, who is nicknamed "Glambert" for bold outfits and taste in music, landed on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine in June, when he confirmed that he is gay after months of speculation by "Idol" fans.
Allen, a married Arkansas native, has kept a lower profile since leaving the show, but he told Reuters he is fine with not getting all the attention.
"I think that Adam does his thing, and obviously it's a little bit different than mine, and I think it catches the eye probably a little bit more than what I do, which is fine," Allen told Reuters.
"I'm just going to go out there, and if people want to put me on the front of their magazine or whatever, that's fine. If they don't, that's fine as well. I'm just going to go out there and make my music," he said.
In a separate interview with Reuters, Lambert said he and Allen "divided the country up a bit" during their run on "American Idol."
"I was the left of center wild child, and Kris was the everyman who is really charming, appealing and accessible. So I knew we were total polar opposites," he said.
But if they were opposites, Allen and Lambert were also friends and were roommates while competing on "Idol."
And Allen said he and Lambert are still in contact. "We actually have been texting in the past couple days, a lot."
